Where we meet |
Scrabble Club #195 meets at the Felicia Mahood Center at 11338 Santa
Monica Boulevard in West Los Angeles every Saturday starting at 10:00
AM for four games. (Click the picture of the Felicia Mahood Center above for directions
and parking information.) The suggested donation to play is $2 for the first game you play,
and $1 for each subsequent game. You
need not donate for any game you do not play and you do not need to play all four games. (You may come late or leave early for
just the $1 per game plus $1 donations.) We average about 40 players a week
and run the gamut from unrated players to players in the top 50 in
North America by rating. We also have an age range of players as
young as 9 and as old as 90.
This club was started by the late Don Knutzen, and it was his idea to
offer bagels to the players. Your entry donations go to the rental of
the space and to those bagels, as well as coffee and other refreshments.
Sadly, due to increased costs, we can no longer afford to have bagels and keep our expenses
low. Coffee and other refreshments are still available, though.
The club currently has two divisions separated at about the NASPA rating
of about 1000. (If you don't know what a NASPA rating is, don't
worry about it. It will not be important until you wish to play
in a tournament.) The director matches up the players at his or
her discretion for the first game, and bases pairings in future games
based on won-loss record and total number of points. If you
happen to win all four games, you will get $5 (your entry fee).
If you have any turns 100 points or more, you get $1 and your name listed on this web site with the word you made.
Explore this web site to see the current statistics, the 100-point play
list, and upcoming tournaments. If you have any questions,
e-mail them to ScrabbleClub195@aol.com and they will be answered to the
best of our ability.
